Draw movements before machine footprints
A sheep or goat abattoir layout should explain how the animal becomes an inspected product and where every other stream goes. Start with the chosen halal or non-halal route and the competent parties’ requirements. Then connect the seven brochure equipment groups to that facility plan.
A route-based layout review
| Zone or connection | What to show |
|---|---|
| Arrival and lairage | Animal entry, handling, ante-mortem review and held-animal access. |
| Slaughter and bleeding | Approved method, operator access, lifting handoff, collection and checks before dressing. |
| Skin removal | Preparation work positions, dehider, hide exit and transition to clean dressing. |
| Clean dressing and inspection | Rehanging, evisceration, offal identity, veterinary work and hold/reject routes. |
| Cold-room interface | Final handling/washing, hanging components, doorways and the separate refrigeration scope. |
| People and services | Sanitation, cleaning, maintenance, utilities, waste and staff routes. |
Keep unresolved geometry visible
Measure rail elevations, support locations, floor levels, door openings and operator space. Show the incoming and outgoing connections for each piece of equipment. If a drawing is preliminary, label the assumptions so they are checked before fabrication or local construction.
Separate operating routes where required
The owner must obtain the applicable country and certifier requirements before considering shared halal and conventional locations, premises or tools. A diagram with different arrows is not proof that a dual operation is permitted. The approved segregation arrangement has to affect the actual rooms, equipment and operating controls.
What to send for layout review
- Site and building drawing with dimensions, clear heights and floor levels.
- Selected route, animal mix, work pattern and intended chilled-product destination.
- Known local approval requirements and the appointed veterinary/certification reviewers.
- Available utilities, wastewater route and cold-chain scope.
- For upgrades: retained equipment, interface measurements and site photographs.
