Sheep and goat slaughterhouse water and wastewater planning

Plan sheep and goat abattoir blood collection, sanitation, cleaning, drainage and wastewater interfaces with local discharge review and clear project responsibilities.

Separate process collection from general wash water

A sheep or goat line produces different material and water streams around bleeding, skin removal, dressing and cleaning. The facility design must identify what is collected separately, what enters drains and which local party designs treatment and discharge. Equipment drainage alone is not a wastewater approval.

Area or streamDesign question
Blood collectionWhere is collection located and how is it kept distinct from cleaning/drainage routes?
Skins, heads and offalWhich materials have controlled collection or onward handling instead of entering floor drains?
Tool and hand sanitationWhere are water and sanitation interfaces provided for the approved tasks?
Equipment/floor cleaningHow are cleaning access, floor levels and splash routes coordinated with exposed product?
Wastewater and dischargeWho prepares the local treatment/discharge review, sampling or monitoring requirements and environmental submission?

Halal and conventional facility boundaries

Hygiene applies to both routes. A halal operation also needs its recognized certifier’s requirements for cleaning, dedicated tools/areas and product-status separation. Confirm these with the local reviewers; a cleaning procedure must not be assumed to permit shared slaughter equipment when applicable rules require separation.

Information for the local utility team

  • Site drainage drawing, floor levels and discharge connection information.
  • The selected process and the collection routes for blood, hides, offal and waste.
  • Available water quality/supply information and the planned sanitation arrangements.
  • Cold-room and product-washing interfaces, where included in the operating design.
  • Named party for wastewater design, permits, operation and maintenance.

Before machine locations are fixed

Check the supplier’s mechanical service interfaces against the local drainage and treatment plan. Allow equipment cleaning and maintenance access without directing splash through clean product routes. Record unknown flow or treatment assumptions for the responsible designer to assess; do not use a generic consumption figure as a site design value.
